The forgotten brilliance of Piero Heliczer.

Piero Heliczer, Italian-American poet, small-press publisher, film-maker, actor, died in a motor accident in 1993 in France. His poems were collected into a single volume, A Purchase in the White Botanica, by Gerard Malanga in 2001.

You can listen to Heliczer reading some of his poems at PennSound.

Here’s a review of the White Botanica in Jacket magazine.

Here’s an obituary by Tom Raworth in The Independent.

The attentive listener will note that Heliczer’s reading of ‘you coul[d] hear the snow dripping and falling into the deers mouth’ is not as written (The Lipstick of Noise).

And more stuff at the essential Ubuweb.
