Another segment of Waldemar Januszczak’s The Dark Ages tonight.
No doubt lots of pictures of pretty objects that demonstrate the sophistication of so-called barbarians, without tackling the problem that sophistication is not the same as civilisation. You don’t have to be civilised to produce great art and craft, though it might help.
And to date Waldy has only told me of one thing the barbarians invented: trousers. Trousers are good, but I want more than that.
