Imperial measures to make comeback in UK schools. Good.

Ministers said that a new curriculum “goes further” than previous documents drawn up under Labour by requiring schools to place imperial units at the heart of maths lessons.

Under new plans, a draft primary school syllabus requires pupils to understand and use the “basic equivalencies” between metric and common imperial systems.

The quiet replacement of imperial by metric is another case of us not being asked whether we wanted something – and not being told when it was decided (on our behalf) that we were going to get it anyway. It’s not as if people are too stupid to cope with both systems.

Cue the usual whinge from the we-know-best-because-we’re-modern brigade.
